After the success of issue #1 we were keen to put out another issue of PU in time for the annual National Young Writers Festival in Newcastle. For this issue we experimented with a theme. As the collective is made up of avid music fans, we choose to focus on music related material, despite the fact that ‘music zines’ are often considered amongst the lowest on the zine poll! The result is an awesome collection of interviews with many independent bands from Australia and abroad, and articles on riot grrl, punk rock vs punk feminism. We featured many non-music articles and interviews as well, making #2 the largest issue of Pretty Ugly so far. Here’s some samples:
